Let Us All Hope...A Benediction
Let Us All Hope...A Benediction
Acrylic and ink on cotton, machine quilted with gold thread
16" x 21"

When I started this piece for the exhibit "Beautiful Words" at Blockfort Columbus, I intended to use the Old Testament verse from Amos that Martin Luther King Jr quoted in his "Letter from Birmingham Jail." I started to read the letter and was swept up in his command of the language, his indictment on the White American church and his hope for the future of all citizens. The letter just builds and builds until he reaches this final sentence: "Let us all hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away and the deep fog of misunderstanding will be lifted from our fear drenched communities and in some not too distant future the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty."
